The Loop is the popular name for Chicago’s downtown business district. The common belief is that the Loop is named for Chicago's elevated railway, the “L.” However, the name most likely derives from a cable car line that circled the area in the 1880s. Once home to the world's first skyscraper, the Loop today features chic shopping, world-class theater, renowned public parks, the Bean (Cloud Gate), and architectural masterpieces that create one of the most famous skylines in the world.
